A narration about the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hp)

It is narrated that the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (p), has said the following describing the manners of the Messenger of God (pbuh&hp):

He was reserved with his tongue except for what was important to him. He would inquire about his companions [during their absence] and he would bring them close and not alienate them. He would never sit or stand without speaking [of God]. Whenever someone requested a favor from him, he would not turn him away, empty-handed, of whatever was available, or without giving kind words of advice. He accommodated people with his great moral manners, became as if a father to them, and treated them the same. He was always cheerful, friendly, and tolerant, not harsh, would not laugh loudly, was not obscene, did not find faults, would not flatter, nor would he interrupt someone speaking until they finished, by standing up to leave or stopping them.”

(Shaykh al-Sadouq, Ayun Akhbar al-Ridha, v.1, p. 176)

A narration about the sixth Imam (p)

Malik ibn Anas, the jurist of Madina, is reported to have said, I used to go to visit Jafar ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq (p). “He was a man always disposed to one of three states: either he was fasting, praying, or engaged in God’s remembrance. He was among the greatest worshippers, the greatest of the abstaining people who fear God. He narrated many prophetic traditions, was sociable and friendly to sit with and had much [for us] to benefit from.”

(Shaykh al-Sadouq, Ilal al-Shara’i, v. 1, p 235)
