Grand Opening of Al-Zahra Center, Albuquerque, NM
On Sunday, October 1, 2023, the American Shia Muslim community in Albuquerque, New Mexico, celebrated the long-awaited success of establishing their Shia Islamic center. This joyful occasion was marked by the auspicious birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp) and Imam al-Sadiq (p), signifying the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Shia Muslim community in Albuquerque.
For many years, the community held religious programs in different spaces, which presented challenges for children, teachers, and the weekend school administration. Through the blessing of God Almighty, the generous donations and tireless efforts of community members, and support from I.M.A.M., the community finally secured a suitable building in a fitting location, marking a significant achievement for the community.
The opening ceremony was attended by the representative of the religious authority in the United States and the head of the I.M.A.M. organization, Sayyid M. B. Kashmiri, along with religious scholars, representatives of various organizations, schools, and city officials. Attendees also included believers from diverse backgrounds, all united by the love of the family of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp).
During his sermon, His Eminence Sayyid Kashmiri emphasized the importance of establishing Islamic centers and uniting the diaspora of believers for nurturing our children and youth, preserving their religious heritage and noble traditions, while also fostering good citizenship, coexistence, and integration with our fellow citizens, following the guidance of the supreme religious authority.
Sayyid Kashmiri stressed the need for a solid Islamic education that is based on principles of peace, love, and moral excellence that emulates the lives of the Prophet of Mercy, Muhammad (pbhu&hp), and the infallible Imams who came after him so that we can overcome hatred and Islamophobia. He reflected on the unfortunate tragedy of the four community members last year who were victims of ignorance, fanaticism, and hatred.
He concluded by stating that with knowledge, good morals, and hard work, we can unite against all forms of backwardness and hatred, and pave the way for a brighter future for our children and future generations in this country.
